A problem on the rise

Of the many crimes that affect humanity today, acid attacks are one of the worst. Their cruelty is just one aspect; the emotional and physical effects can sometimes be far more troubling. Quite often, victims feel that their only option is to end their own lives.

The frequency of acid attacks is particularly high in the Indian context, demanding immediate and decisive action.

“I don’t just fight for justice—I fight for every woman who has been told she can’t.”

I am Shabnam, the proud Founder and President of the Crime Control Defence Organization (CCDO)— a grassroots NGO on a mission to bring justice, dignity, and empowerment to those society too often ignores.

At CCDO, we stand with survivors of rape and acid attacks, transgender individuals, sex workers, and victims of domestic violence. We don’t offer charity—we offer strength, support, and the tools to reclaim life with courage and confidence.
About Us
My journey into social activism began not in a classroom, but at home. I was raised by a mother who, despite being physically handicapped, was the strongest woman I’ve ever known. She taught me and my five siblings to rise above limitations, believe in the power of education, and always fight for what’s right—even when no one else does.

Inspired by her resilience, I excelled academically and proudly represented India at the national level in sports, earning a medal for the country and subsequently contributed as a skilled lawn tennis coach. But my true calling came from the real-life struggles.

I witnessed around me—stories of injustice, silence, and pain that could not be ignored.

And so, CCDO was founded—with a mission rooted in justice and resilience. To be a voice for the voiceless, a hand to hold during recovery, and a platform where survivors don’t just survive—they rise.

Over the years, we’ve helped hundreds of women and marginalized individuals rebuild their lives — providing legal aid, rehabilitation, vocational training, and emotional support. Each success story is a step closer to the India we dream of: safe, just, and inclusive. My vision is bold yet simple: No survivor left behind Every woman empowered A future where justice isn’t a privilege—but a right.

CCDO has decided to build India's dedicated psycho-social rehabilitation hub for acid attack survivors in India in its war against acid violence in the country. As part of this, CCDO met various acid attack survivors.
